On July 31st, 2006 Fidel Castro's disease and the Government assignment to his brother Raul were made known. They immediately unleashed the campaign for "A soon healing of the Commander". In October that year They published images of a very deteriorated Fidel walking and moving his arms robotically, in order to back up the campaign. Additionally, they ordered their secret service to investigate possible young people aspiring to the Presidency; becoming public later that both Perez Roque and Carlos Lage, as well as ten other officials of the cuban dictatorship, had been investigated since more than a year before removing them in March 2009. It is evident that just before the elections, in the month of February of 2008, the secret services had called one by one of the investigated and they had applied them prophylactic measures to avoid surprises at the end of the "Castro-type-Campaign". And once with all the ends tied, Fidel announced on February 19th that he would not go for reelection (5 days before the "elections"). Then, on February 23th, 2008 a meeting of the political Bureau was held, in which the script for candidates for leading posts in the Council of State was developed; and with the known applicants neutralized it was decided that 78-year-old Machado Ventura occupied first Vice President Position. Finally, on February 24th the voting session was developed according to the script, with 597 manipulated present members Raul was named President of the Councils of State and Ministers.
