Article 26 of the Constitution of the Republic of Cuba, related
below, is fictitious. Any similarity to other democratic and respected in real
life Constitutions, is entirely coincidental and unintentional:
Article
26: Anybody who suffers damages unjustly caused by a state official or employee
while in the performance of his public functions has the right to claim and
obtain the corresponding indemnification as prescribed by law.
On December 16th, 1996 five officers of the
Castro regime, trespassed my home
and committed an illegal search; and although we immediately began a process of
claims, accusations, complaints and requests, through countless legal, political
and social, actions and negotiations, in an exhausted, humiliating and fruitless
period of almost six long years, we could not overcome the state of impunity
enjoyed by officials in Cuba, with the complicity and / or consent of the
highest circles of government. Such vulgar and rough
process, which besides having caused us invaluable economic and psychical
damages, became a political problem that forced us to exile, leaving behind
dear sons, beloved grandchildren, brothers, nephews and nieces, uncles and
aunts, cousins, friends, and the land of our birth, with our customs and
idiosyncrasy.
