"In
chains living, is to live, deep-down in shame and ignominy..." "Run to battle, People from
Bayamo..."
Let's sign now the Petition to Judges Dean Spielmann and Humberto Sierra Porto,
Presidents of the European and Interamerican Courts for Human Rights, respectively;
Taking into consideration that in the very Preamble to the Constitution of the
Republic of Cuba it is stated: WE DECLARE our will that the law of laws of the Republic be guided by the
following strong desire of José Martí, at last achieved; "I want the
fundamental law of our republic to be the tribute of Cubans to the full dignity
of man"; we understand it's imperative to submit to Referendum Article
137 of that Constitution which legally prevents any democratic analysis and planning
of a new and prosperous Cuba as a nation of all Cubans in exile and in the island;
that allows to fulfill that wish of
Jose Marti, not yet achieved. We have started this Petition, aimed at succeeding
to hold a plebiscite on the annulment of the Irrevocability of Socialism
in Cuba, on the basis of the following issues:
1.-This
legally underpinned irrevocability indicates precisely our questioning its
functional effective support as a socio-political and economic project.
Capitalism is not irrevocable, and yet no country would ever return to
feudalism.
2.-To
gain approval for the irreversibility of socialism, the regime took advantage
of the obedience of the Cubans due to confusion, convenience, apathy,
commitment, fear, double standards, or corruption; and also pressured by the
existence of a single party, total censorship of information
contrary to or unwanted by the regime and the totalitarian system of
repression and espionage prevailing on the island for half a century, which
managed to blackmail an absurd and questionable 98.97% of the votes, amid the
precarious situation of the island, a mass exodus, and the constant defection
of professionals, athletes, artists and officials from all levels of Castro
organizations.
3.-It becomes imperative to cancel out the irreversibility of
Socialism, to submit to referendum the internal contradictions of the Cuban
Magna Carta, which does not guarantee that the democratic principles thereof
met are accomplished and the rights granted in its precepts are effectively
guaranteed; such as: the right to free expression, press freedom and freedom of
association; and voting rights of Cuban exiles, among the most important ones.
4.-Based on the provisions of the very Preamble of the Cuban Constitution,
which announces: BASING
OURSELVES on proletarian internationalism, on the fraternal friendship, aid,
cooperation and solidarity of the peoples of the world, especially those of
Latin America and the Caribbean; we procure on this request, not
just the signatures of all Cuban exiles and from the island, but also from all
the friends in the world as well, in order to prevent the regime from retaliating
against the signatories, including exile, whom they could deny or encumber their
frequent family contacts on the island.
5.-But,
while in Cuba a Constitutional Law is dictated, or a truly democratic
government is elected by all Cubans, we have decided to send this Petition to the
Inter-American and European Courts of Human Rights for them to examine the
correctness of our desires and to back us as appropriate in international law.
"The homeland proudly beholds you..." We are already 63 and the
number of signatures continues to increase. Here is the link:
